An appeals court has allowed the Trump administration to proceed in its plan to strip temporary protected status (TPS) designations for Afghans and Cameroonians in the United States.

The Trump administration moved in April to end TPS for Afghans and Cameroonians in the U.S., saying conditions in Afghanistan and Cameroon no longer merited the protected status. The move affected an estimated 14,600 Afghans and 7,900 Cameroonians.

A short, unsigned order by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Virginia blocked the Trump administration’s move to terminate deportation protections until next week.
