Flooding caused delays on multiple New York City subway lines Monday as torrential rain pummeled the Tri-State Area, where many were under flash flood warnings. MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber says riders can expect normal service for the morning commute Tuesday.

Heavy rain inundated the region with flash flooding that stranded vehicles in roadways, closed subway lines and led to the declaration of states of emergency.

When the train doors opened, "quite a lot of water came in, so almost all of us stood up on the seats," a passenger told Newsweek.

A flash flood warning was in effect in New York City until 9:45 p.m., and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency. Middlesex, Morris and Somerset counties remained under a flood warning until 7:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Footage shows wooden slats from the home on the ground with other debris. The blast took place around the same time heavy rainfall hit the northeast.

Parts of New York City and Northern New Jersey were inundated on Monday night as widespread thunderstorms moved through.
